There is an ugly truth that sometimes, someone or something will make you feel worthless in a part of your life. And though this prompt is a hard one to write about, I believe it’s a necessary part of self-discovery.
But the word worthless can be tough to think about. Because honestly, all of us are worthy. Though I don’t believe that neither of us is worthless, I can’t ignore the feeling of feeling worthless at times.
What Does Worthless Mean?
Worthless means when something or someone holds no value, is useless, or has no good qualities.
When you are feeling this way, it can make you feel like you don’t matter and no one gives a crap about you. And just sometimes, that could be your reality.
Write Out All the Things That Make you Feel Useless
When writing out the ways you feel worthless, make sure to explain why. For instance, I’ll be very vulnerable with you. Sometimes, I feel worthless being a stay-at-home mom because I am not bringing in a certain amount of money like I used to before.
In a world where money literally makes the world go round, I sometimes feel like I’m not doing my part for my household’s finances, yet, my husband has never complained.
But if you would have asked the work-driven Ash many years ago, she would say that I’ve gone soft. When in reality, my whole life changed when I had a baby during the pandemic.
As for you, what are some ways you feel worthless? Is it all of the time? Sometimes? Or every now and then when faced with troubled waters?
Talk about who (if who) makes you feel that way and why. Be as honest as you can, because, in the end, you will have some clarity as to who you are, what you keep allowing, and how you can change things.
Now, Write All the Things That Make You Feel Valued And Appreciated
This is the most important part of this journal session. Now, you must write out all the things that make you feel valued and appreciated. Because what we don’t want to do is stay in the negative space with all the things that make us feel down and low. That’s literally the devil’s work.
Now, think about the things or people that make you feel like you are precious diamonds. As for me, remember I talked about feeling worthless because I don’t bring in the income I used to.
But at the same time, I feel valued because I am taking care of my family. I make sure there is always food to eat, dinner cooked, clothes washed, dishes are clean, my daughter is learning, and my husband is happy.
That’s a thankless job, but they make sure to make me feel appreciated.
As for you, think about who makes you feel special, whether it’s indirect or direct. If you can’t think of a place, a person, a pet, or a thing that makes you feel valued, maybe it’s time for you to be that person for you.
Start with spending time with yourself, treating yourself to something you love, and practicing being mindful of all the blessings surrounding you.
Book To Help Change Your Thinking
Don’t Believe Everything You Think
By: Joseph Nguyen
This book is great for those who have anxiety, depression, or random self-sabotage mental battles like me, who need a new perspective on re-wiring the way to think.
Yeah, you might feel worthless, hopeless, and useless now, but every storm does not last forever. Believe that! Only speaking from experience.
Til next time,
– Much Love, Ash ❤️
