Going back to the earliest part of my childhood memory, I can remember the pure joy of having a book in my hands. The times when I couldn’t read, I could see the illustrations in the books that made my mind wonder and go places.
From children’s books to magazines to YA and now non-fiction, the feeling I get when I crack open a book is magical. And I’m not selling you on some bs. I’m speaking from the heart.
Why do I love books so much? It’s not only for the smell of physical books. It’s for reasons that live deep into my core and in return, becomes my happy place.

The Adventure It Takes You
Each book takes you on its own adventure, and that’s the thrill of it all. It’s like getting on a rollercoaster blind. You don’t know how far you will climb to the peak or what will happen after you get there.
That’s what books do for me. Yes, you have the synopsis but the great thing about it is you don’t know what details will take place, with shocking twists you will stumble upon, or the emotions you will feel unexpectantly.
If you allow it, a book can take you places that will stimulate all of your senses.
Opens Up Your Creativity
They say books and movies are the same, but I beg to disagree. Both will take you on an adventure. But books will open up your creativity, where your mind is the movie.
Based on the illustrations or the details that describe the scenes, such as the feelings, and emotions, books will create your own movie with your imagination.
This explains why 2 out of 3 people will experience the same book differently. Not saying that one person doesn’t have a good imagination. But they may not experience the book, the same way you did in your head. And the same goes for movies.
It’s all about opening your mind to the fullest to receive the best experience from a book and immerse yourself in the literature.
Changes The Way You Think
Another reason why I love reading is to open my mind to a new perspective. Every book comes with its own ideas to give you a new perspective, a new way of thinking and processing information.
This is great for those like me who are hungry for learning new things and experiences. Books will take you to different places where you’ve never been before. They will show you new ways to love yourself, love others, and how you should be loved.
It creates worlds that are unimaginable to your mind but opens up the possibility to experience something out of this world. That’s what books do for me. and maybe for you too.
Escape Into Another World
When you need a good escape from the crazy world we live in, a book is the answer. Not social media, a book. Books allow you to connect with new people (characters), and now you are attached to their world.
This is great for stepping out of your world and into theirs, and it takes you on a ride inside your mind. Just don’t get caught up in books so much that you neglect navigating hard times in your own life.
It Calms A Racing, Anxious Heart
Reading is a great way to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression at times. This is because when you are reading, you are calm and relaxed. For most of us, reading a book is enjoyable, and indirectly, it calms our nervous system.
As an added benefit, reading and drinking tea is a great combination to further reduce stress and anxiety. I can attest to this because I sometimes suffer from bad anxiety. But when I’m reading while sipping on herbal tea, like my favorite Peppermint tea, it’s really relaxing.
Non caffinated drinks are best but if coffee brings you joy, try picking up decaffinated coffee and add in your favorite coffee creamer to enhance your experience.
Til next time,
– Much Love, Ash ❤️
